Trump’s Inauguration: Chilly winters play a spoiler, Ceremony to be held indoors

Trump’s Inauguration: Chilly winters play a spoiler, Ceremony to be held indoors

For the first time in 40 years, American presidential inaugural ceremonies will not be held on the steps of the US Capitol but indoors. Amid the long-awaited colossal on January 20, the excitement seems to be fading away as the temperature is presumed to plummet on US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration day. As per reports, several of the day’s planned events have been moved to Capital One Arena in downtown, Washington DC - a sports venue that holds only 20,000 people. Taking to social media on January 17, Donald Trump announced that the arena would be open for those wishing to view his inauguration ceremony, which traditionally takes place in front of the US Capitol but will now take place inside the congressional complex. This will be an unprecedented event in forty years that the American presidential inaugural ceremonies will not be held on the steps of the US Capitol but indoors. The last time an inauguration was moved indoors because of the bitter cold was in 1985 for former Republican President Ronald Reagan's second swearing-in, when the afternoon wind chill fell into the range of minus 10 to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The forecast for Washington on Monday puts temperatures at the time of Trump's swearing-in at around 19 degrees Fahrenheit and will feel even colder with wind chill. The chilly winter has also forced organizers to scrap a planned parade down Pennsylvania Avenue of military regiments, school marching bands, floats and citizens’ groups which will now take place at Capital One. On the eve of the inauguration, Trump is set to hold a campaign-style "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" at the Capital One Arena. The developments raise a big question - Will only 20,000 people watch Donald Trump being crowned for the second time?
